Frequently Asked Questions .. By Chess Parents

FAQ

Q. What is the best age to start playing chess?

It depends on the individual. There are State / National / National School tournaments organized for age Under 7 years and hence, we believe that the ideal age to start chess is between 4.5 to 5 years, provided the child shows some interest towards the game. If we start at this age; within a year or two we can expect the child to reach to the stage; where he can participate in these National Tournaments and can earn good score in it.

Q. How important is the role of a parent? What can I do to help my child's progress in chess?

A strong chess player is molded by the cumulative efforts of the player himself/herself, parents, trainers, sponsors, school and so on. But primarily, a child looks up to his/her parents for material resources and emotional needs.

As a parent you can...play with your child and develop the interest and confidence in the game.be a mentor and motivate your child by narrating inspiring stories and events.purchase chess material for individual practice at home. instill the importance of learning the right things well.prevent your child from racing towards victory through shortcuts and instead encourage him/her to earn it through hard work and commitment.plan everything to balance the time between academics, training and tournaments.identify the right trainer for individual training when your child reaches a certain level.identify the tournaments to participate and plan intense training sessions for preparation before a tournament.persuade the school to support your child's chess ventures.teach them the importance of individual practice at home.help your child handle expected and unexpected results in a balanced way. Chess is a sport, so winning and losing is completely normal.

Q. How important is it to get the right trainer for my child?

A good trainer can motivate the child in the right way, teach the essential basics of the game, set the right attitude, kindle the interest in learning and working individually at home. The trainer should incline your child more towards learning so that victories come automatically but not the other way round.

Q. How important it is for the child to practice regularly?

According to a school of thought, it takes roughly 20 hours per week of practice to become a successful professional in any discipline. It would be ideal if a child, aspiring to become a Grand Master, can practice chess 2 hours a day during weekdays/schooldays and around 4 hours on weekends. Chess being an individual sport, a player should learn to think for himself/herself and take tough decisions all by himself/herself. Regular individual work will help improve these qualities greatly! The importance of home work in chess cannot be emphasized enough.

Planning for One Day Rapid Chess Tournaments at Pimple Saudagar at least once in a month

Based on the request from many parents and Chess Enthusiasts .. Prerana Chess Academy is planning to Organize One-day Rapid Tournament at least once in a month; mostly it would be Saturday or Sunday.

Idea is to create platform for Chess Players - particularly kids of age group Under-5, Under-7, Under-9, Under-11, Under-13 locally.

Generally it is very difficult for parents to find the tournament and then another challenge is to spend entire day at the venue; instead if they get opportunity to drop the kids in the morning and pick them up in the afternoon / evening would be much helpful for them - is what we think.
We welcome your thoughts about the same.
  • * Tournament Location would be Pimple Saudagar
  • * Although there is no restriction, but first priority would be given to Pimple Saudagar, Rahatani, Wakad residents and then the other areas
  • * The Tournament would be in Swiss League Format
  • * It would be played as per the FIDE Rules
  • * Attractive Trophies / Medals would be given to motivate kids
  • * Entry Fees would be applicable and must be paid in advanced to book your seats
  • * Organizing Committee would have RIGHTS to restrict the entries to individuals depending on their performance / behavior from the past tournaments
  • * Result would be published on the same day and prize distribution would also happen on the same day
Any kind of suggestions - feel free to write to us at preranachessacademy@gmail.com or feel free to whatsapp / SMS / Call at 8007390399, 9049159246

Although we have not declared any schedule yet; but we request parents to share the Name, Date of Birth and Contact Number with us through Whatsapp / SMS or Email; so that we can reach out to you all at once when actual schedule is planned and you will get priority compared to others.
Based on the availability of the required knowledge, skills, experience, material and enthusiasm we can assure you the smooth execution of these events and we can promise you that you would love to be part of these events every time.

Thanks and Regards,
